The North East Sports Academy (NESA), is designed to offer you the perfect environment in which to develop your sporting and academic skills.
You can become a NESA student in one of the following Development Centre sports: Men's Football, Women's Football, Rugby Union, Basketball and Badminton, there are also competitive opportunities available in Netball and Golf.
As a NESA student you can study any of Tyne Metropolitan College's fantastic courses, and receive up to 10 hours of high level coaching in your chosen sport, all within your college timetable. In addition to this great coaching you will also receive a sport specific strength and conditioning programme from our strength and conditioning coach, free gym membership, free physiotherapy and a subsidised NESA sports clothing pack.
Our partnerships with Team Northumbria, Newcastle United Women's F.C, The Newcastle Eagles, The Necastle United Foundation, North Tyneside Council, local amateur clubs and Sporting Governing Bodies offers NESA students a real opportunity for progression, both in their academic studies and in their Sport.
NESA Steering Groups made up of representatives from our partner organisations will meet regularly to discuss the progression of the individual Development Centres, and ensure that your best interests are looked after.
Your Main Programme of Study
Can be any full - time programme in any subject offered by TyneMet College — See our prospectus
Can be a Vocational or an “Academic” programme
Will lead to a nationally-recognised qualification e.g. A-Levels, Vocational Qualifications at level 1,2 or 3
May enable you to progress further, to one of our Higher Education Programmes
Can provide a guaranteed progression route for you to Team Northumbria and Northumbria University if you meet their criteria
May take one year, two years, or longer — if you are accepted for NESA you remain a Sports Academy student for as long as you are with us
You must fulfil all the requirements of your main programme of study to remain a NESA student
All NESA Students must abide by the Code of Conduct at all times
